Comfortable, natural looking dentures

If you have a few or all of your teeth missing, one solution is to have a denture.

Dentures are made from hard-wearing material that mimics the look of your teeth and gums to give your mouth a natural appearance. Your denture will be made to fit snugly on your gums and you will be able to remove it for cleaning.

When you wear a denture for the first time it may get some getting used to when speaking or eating and chewing. It is important that you take extra care in your hygiene regime so that you can avoid bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease. The hygienist will be able to show you how to best take care of your denture and gums and will tell you about specialised brushes you can use to do this.

All you need to know about dentures

Dentures vary enormously,at Higher Lane Dental Practice we produce quality, bespoke, natural looking dentures.

  • Full dentures - full dentures are used to replace all of your teeth and will either sit on the gum or supported using dental implants.
  • Partial denture - if you only want to replace a few teeth we can use partial dentures, these are supported either by adjacent teeth or dental implants.

Unlike dental implants, dentures are generally not permanently fixed but held in place by suction, so they need to fit extremely well.  If there are any large gaps underneath the denture, the suction cannot be maintained and the denture will become loose.

Overtime the bone around your jaw will resorb and shrink, as it does this you will notice your denture not fitting quite so well. To overcome this your denture will need to be relined, which will fill in any large gaps between where your denture and gum. and they will fit perfectly again.

Caring for your dentures

Dentures can have a tendency to dry out very quickly which can lead to stress lines to forming. To prevent this we recommended that your dentures fully hydrated and storing them i water overnight is very important. Alternatively you could use a denture cleaning ultrasonic bath which can double up as a cleaning mechanism as well as a storage facility. These are fairly cost effective and available online.
